Ispent years learning the difference between an idea and a product the hard way — by paying for the gap in cash, time, and rewrites. This practice is what I wish I'd had on the other side of that door.
I'm a founder first. Harmoni — the AI-powered wellness platform I built — is in production today because I sat with the ambiguity for months before I let anyone write a line of code. I wrote the PRD. I scoped the MVP. I cut features I loved. I documented decisions so my future engineers wouldn't have to guess what I meant.
Most founders skip that part. They don't skip it on purpose. They skip it because no one tells them it exists. The startup canon talks about MVPs and PMF, but the actual work — the documentation, the scoping conversations, the reality-checks — happens off-camera, usually inside expensive engineering retainers where it's billed by the hour and decided by people who don't have your skin in the game.
This practice exists to move that work back to the founder, where it belongs, and back to before the budget, where it pays for itself. I'm not a software developer. I won't write your code. I will make sure that when somebody else does, they're building the right thing.
